Finding the perfect brand name.

Right off the bat, I know that my market is womenswear and that I have already established that I am gearing towards making clothing for California girls specifically. Having a catchy brand name is important because it embodies your company/idea and with a catchy name, your customers will instantly remember what it is and not have to ponder... "What was that store name again?"

I wanted to give my company a name that represents a California girl. I got the idea of having the company be called after a girl's name after the brand "Roxy" or "Madden" by Steve Madden. I searched "most popular California baby names" on Google and stumbled on this site:
http://babynames.allparenting.com/babynames/Popular/Top_50_California_Baby_Names_Girls_Boys/.Here are some of the choices that made me think California girl:

  • Sophie
  • Chloe
  • Tori
  • Madison
  • Alexa
  • Kensie
  • Mackenzie
  • Kylie
Some of these names stand good on its own, but adding -blue to the name makes it sound catchier. Like Madison-Blue or Alexa-Blue. I also searched for surfer girl names and came upon these two:

  • Nixie - Germany name meaning "little water spirit"
  • Narelle - Australian; a woman from the sea
After much contemplation, what stood out to me was NIXIE.
